Finding the right bath tap

Whatever shape and size of bath you choose, whether your bath is freestanding, installed next to a wall or recessed into the floor: it needs the right tap to make it complete. The following overview provides a useful guide to help you choose the perfect tap for your dream bathroom.

What are the different installation options?

Built-in tap

In the case of built-in installation, the mixer tap and/or the thermostat are concealed inside the wall, leaving only the components that you hold and move during use visible, i.e. the tap, the shower(s) and its flexible hoses. This installation method saves space and also looks stylishly understated and functional. However, built-in installation involves more work as the technology is fitted behind or under the wall, often in a front wall or a prefabricated base body for built-in systems.

Surface-mounted tap

“Surface-mounted” means that the mechanism for mixing the water is situated in front of the wall. A classic, elegant surface-mounted installation for a bath might consist, for example, of a surface-mounted thermostat, the water inlet and a hand shower, perhaps even a separate overhead shower.

One major advantage of surface-mounted installations is the simple fitting: there is no need to tear open the wall or build a dry construction front wall. The complete new system is simply fitted on the existing wall connections during a renovation or modernisation.

Floor-standing bath mixer

Floor-standing bath mixer taps are very eye-catching features in the bathroom. This exceptional installation method looks elegant and luxurious even in minimalist designs and works best with spacious bathrooms and freestanding baths. You can choose models with or without a hand shower. If your bath has a wide rim, there is also the option of an integrated rim tap. In this case, the shower hose is concealed in the rim of the bath, leaving only the shower head and rim mixer in sight, i.e. the mixer tap and water inlet.

What materials are available?

Chrome-coloured bath taps

Bath taps in chrome-plated brass have a beautiful shine and are resistant to mechanical stress and corrosion. However, the chrome plating must be high quality and properly applied to avoid any flaking or peeling of the chrome layer.

Matt colours

Bath taps in shiny or matt stainless steel impress with their stability, durability and a particularly high-quality look. The solid construction means that nothing can flake or peel – the tap is a single piece and this gives it even more resistance than chrome-plated models.

What tap matches my bathroom?

Design

The tap design needs to coordinate with the style of the bathroom and integrate harmoniously in the overall look. As well as classic bath taps, you can also find models with a waterfall function where the water flows into the bath like a miniature Niagara Falls. Taps with an elegant black finish work well with modern bathroom designs and are a real feature in the bathroom.

Functionality and comfort

If comfort and safety are a particular concern for you, a thermostat bath tap is a good choice. This ensures that the water always flows from the tap at the preset temperature, allowing you to get in the bath straight away without having to make any final adjustments. When choosing your tap, make sure the valve is made from ceramic for smooth operation and no maintenance.

Summary

When choosing your new bath tap, make sure it coordinates with your bathroom in terms of both functionally and aesthetics - and, of course, with the bath and other sanitary fittings. Opt for good design combined with high-quality workmanship to enjoy your new tap for as long as possible in your bathroom.
